Pennies for PAWS began with passionate individuals coming together for one common goal. With the full support of our families behind us as we began this new adventure, it was no surprise where our next program began.
Operation Snuggle first began as a casual suggestion from our founder’s grandmother, Nanny Mary, and has turned into an amazing program for us to provide comfort for homeless animals. Nanny has been passionately hand making blankets of various sizes since the fall 2020 to support Operation Snuggle. We are so thankful to have shared thousands of blankets with animal shelters, rescue groups and pet owners all across Hampton Roads VA. Her creations are not only beautiful but made with love and a passion to provide comfort at all times.
The comfort provided from our Operation Snuggles blankets supports shelter and rescue animals as they start their new adventures after getting adopted and any animal that experiences anxiety or fear with new things These blankets are the perfect size to travel with them to a new home, road trips, visiting the vet and more by creating a small gesture of reassurance and familiarity to alleviate any stress that may arise during their adventure.
This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who enjoys volunteering and/ or learning new skills from the comfort of their home. While Nanny Mary prefers crochet as her style to blanket making we accept all types of blankets into this program. Our other blanket maker is Grammy Brenda who takes left over materials from our snuffle mat program and sews them into beautiful blankets of various sizes.
At the end of the day this program is all about providing comfort and helping all animals have comfort through any tough times.
Other ways to help make a difference would be purchasing or donating skeins of yarn for our blanket makers to continue their crochet work. The best type of yarn to donate would be the super bulky blanket yarn- 10.5 oz/ 300g best used for an 8mm crochet hook. All of these options to be a part of Operation Snuggle can be found below.

We have been able to donate thousands of blankets to animal shelters, rescue groups and pet owners all across the 757 (and beyond) thanks to amazing and generous donors that believe in the comfort they provide.
